Booking management
Improve your Booking.com property page before chasing rankings
A sensible way to review room details, photo categories, availability and guest expectations without relying on ranking promises.
August 2026

When a guest opens a property listing, they are trying to decide whether the stay fits their plans. Missing room details, unclear photos or unavailable dates make that decision harder. For a hotel or villa in Sri Lanka, improving the listing is a practical task even when the search position changes from one traveller to another. Start with information you can control rather than a promise to reach number one.
Understand what a content score can tell you
Booking.com's property page score reflects the completeness and quality of property content. Its guidance can identify missing information or photo tasks, including adding or tagging certain types of images. Use those recommendations as a work list. A content score is not the same thing as a guest review score or a guaranteed position in search results.
The platform explains that ranking also relates to clicks, bookings and net bookings, with influences including availability, pricing, policies, reviews and content. Traveller preferences and commercial factors can matter too. Better content is one part of a wider operating picture.
Match every detail to the room being sold
Review room names, bed arrangements, maximum occupancy, bathrooms and included facilities against the actual rooms. If only some rooms have a balcony, do not make the whole property sound as though every guest receives one. Clear distinctions help a traveller compare room types without contacting reception for basic facts.
Check the descriptions and facility selections available in your current extranet. Some presentation is generated from structured property information, so inspect the public result after changing fields. Keep a separate approved room reference for your own website and other booking channels.

Give the photo gallery a job
Build a photo list covering the exterior, entrance, each room type, bathroom and relevant shared facilities. Assign photographs to the correct room or category where the platform supports it. Lead with a strong, truthful image that helps someone recognise the property. A visually attractive pool photo should not conceal the fact that a particular room is small or has no view.
Avoid uploading many near-identical pictures simply to make the gallery longer. Review the sequence on a phone. Ask whether someone can understand the accommodation, rather than whether the gallery looks impressive to the owner.
Keep the property genuinely bookable
Content improvements will not solve an empty availability calendar. Check dates, room inventory, minimum stays and restrictions with the person responsible for reservations. Confirm that cancellation terms and inclusions are understandable. Do not loosen policies or discount rooms without first considering the operational effect.
After changes, monitor views, bookings and cancellations over comparable periods. Record what changed and when. If a listing gets more clicks but fewer completed bookings, examine the room offer and booking conditions before assuming that the photos failed.
Your next steps
- Work through the current property page recommendations.
- Match facilities and photos to the correct room type.
- Check availability and restrictions for important dates.
- Review bookings and cancellations alongside visibility.
